Invertek Rapid+ 550/12V: a 500VA pure sine wave inverter for compact 1BHK homes

The Rapid+ 550/12V is a 500VA / 425W pure sine wave inverter for a single room, a 1RK flat or a compact 1BHK where budget matters more than headroom. It runs from one 12V battery and has an LED status display.

Fans, LED lights, a TV and a router sit comfortably inside its rating. For a laptop and desktop setup, or anything with a compressor, the Rapid+ 1150/12V (900VA) or larger gives you more room. The model number 950 is not the VA rating.

What a 700VA / 560 W inverter can run

The 560 W figure is a resistive (bulb load) rating. Motors such as fridge compressors and pumps draw a short surge when they start, so count them a little heavier. Typical draws are below; check the label on your own appliances.

ApplianceTypical running draw
Ceiling fan60–80 W (BLDC fan: 30–35 W)
LCD bulb or tube9–20 W
32 to 43 inch LCD TV40–100 W
Wi-Fi router and set-top box10–25 W
Laptop and phone chargers45–90 W

A working example: three fans (210 W), four LED lights (40 W), a 32-inch TV (50 W) and a router (10 W) come to roughly 310 W, about 55% of the 560 W rating. As a rule of thumb, keep the continuous load below about 450 W, which is 80% of the rating.

A small single-door fridge may run, but at 560 W with a start-up surge there is little headroom, so use the Rapid+ 1150/12V (900VA) or larger for a fridge. Air conditioners, geysers, induction cooktops and room heaters are outside its range.

Battery options and backup time

The Rapid+ 950/12V works with one 12V battery: tubular, TGEL, SMF, gel or LiFePO4 lithium. You can start with lead-acid and move to lithium later without replacing the inverter. The inverter is sold without a battery. A 12V 100Ah tubular battery is a common pairing at this size.

To estimate backup time, multiply battery volts by amp-hours, take about half of that as usable for a lead-acid battery, multiply by 0.85 for inverter losses, and divide by your load in watts. For a 12V 100Ah tubular battery (1,200 Wh) that works out to about 1.6 hours at 310 W and about 3.4 hours at 150 W. A 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery (assuming 90% usable) gives about 3.2 hours at 310 W. These are calculations with an assumed 85% inverter efficiency, not lab measurements; heavy loads, battery age and temperature all shorten real backup.
