Invertek Rapid+ 1150/12V: a 900VA pure sine wave inverter for 1BHK homes

The Rapid+ 1150/12V is the 900VA / 720W model in Invertek's Rapid+ home UPS range. ""1150"" is the model number, not the VA rating. It runs from a single 12V battery and is sized for a 1BHK flat, a studio or a small shop that needs fans, LED lights, a TV and Wi-Fi to stay on during power cuts. Pure sine wave output is the same waveform the grid supplies, so fans do not hum and LED lights are less likely to flicker than on a modified sine wave inverter. If your home is a 2BHK, or you plan to run a fridge alongside the usual loads, look at the Rapid+ 1250/12V (1050VA) instead.

What a 900VA / 720 W inverter can run

The 720 W figure is a resistive (bulb load) rating. Motors such as fridge compressors and pumps draw a short surge when they start, so count them a little heavier. Typical draws are below; check the label on your own appliances.
Appliance Typical running draw
Ceiling fan 60–80 W (BLDC fan: 30–35 W)
LED bulb or tube 9–20 W
32 to 43 inch LED TV 40–100 W
Wi-Fi router and set-top box 10–25 W
Laptop and phone chargers 45–90 W
Desktop PC with monitor 150–300 W
Single-door refrigerator 100–200 W, plus a start-up surge
A working example: three fans (210 W), five LED lights (50 W), a 43-inch TV (80 W) and a router (10 W) come to roughly 350 W, about 49% of the 720 W rating. As a rule of thumb, keep the continuous load below about 580 W, which is 80% of the rating. It is not meant for air conditioners, geysers, induction cooktops, room heaters or irons. Those draw 1,000 W or more and need a larger inverter.

Battery options and backup time

The Rapid+ 1150/12V works with one 12V battery: tubular, TGEL, SMF, gel or LiFePO4 lithium. You can start with lead-acid and move to lithium later without replacing the inverter. The inverter is sold without a battery. A 12V 150Ah tubular battery is a common pairing at this size. To estimate backup time, multiply battery volts by amp-hours, take about half of that as usable for a lead-acid battery, multiply by 0.85 for inverter losses, and divide by your load in watts. For a 12V 150Ah tubular battery (1,800 Wh) that works out to about 2.2 hours at 350 W and about 3.8 hours at 200 W. A 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery (assuming 90% usable) gives about 2.8 hours at 350 W. These are calculations with an assumed 85% inverter efficiency, not lab measurements; heavy loads, battery age and temperature all shorten real backup.

Works great during outages

Bought the Rapid+1150/12V for our home in Meerut because of the power situation here. It easily backs up fans, lights and the TV and the sine wave output is very smooth, no humming sound from the fans or fridge. The technician who installed it explained everything clearly. Overall quite impressed with the purchase, would recommend to anyone facing the power situation here. The display could be a bit brighter for reading at night.
